The SpinOut project of the MilkyWay Internet Café are collaborating
with the talented guys from PC Music to offer the youth of Gauteng
the opportunity to learn the basics of making music on a Personal
Computer. And all this for free! This workshop will start of by covering
some basic theory and an introduction to the most popular (free) music
software tools. Then we will have hands-on demos. The workshop will
be presented by PC Music founder and Wits University Computer Science
Honours student Josh Adler (who is also a musician), assisted by some
classmates from the Wits Interactive Computing Group (ICG), as well
as Bruce Gillespie of the MilkyWay.
The workshop
is limited to the school-going age group, and youth from outlying
and formerly disadvantaged areas are especially encouraged to attend.
The only requirement is a sincere interest in music. The workshop
will run from 10h00 to 15h00 on Sunday the 29th April 2001 and will
take place at the MilkyWay Internet Café in Times Square, Yeoville.
Lunch will be sponsored by the MilkyWay's holding company, PCB Technologies.
Since space is
severely limited, we ask that interested people please reserve a place
by phoning (011) 487-1340 or by emailing spinout@milkyway.co.za
For those who can't make the workshop, we will be putting most of
the presentations and links to the software up on our web sites.
